MC Debris is the songwriting alter-ego, or alter-acadmic, of Jack W Stamps, professor of music at Seton Hall University. He continues an ongoing inquiry into the intersection of music, technology and pop culture that began in the mid-80s in San Antonio, Texas.
His compositional activity, through the use of increasingly expressive and intuitive music technologies, explores the intersection of seemingly opposing forces while allowing for reconciliation of their aesthetic and cultural differences. Whether pop songs or string quartets, his work considers the line between these opposing forces—East-West norms, high and lowbrow, between perception and expectation—as a line that can connect us rather than divide.
He lives, at long last, happily in Morristown, New Jersey with his wife and son.
